Designed for a poolside area in Manhattan, this end-table series brings together an uncommon yet playful wood species, and deceptively light deployment of concrete to create a series of surfaces upon which to enjoy cocktails, play games, and appreciate the qualities of the wood. Sustainably sourced from Costa Rica and machined locally, this series of 12 tables showcases the beautiful variability of wood and celebrates the unique characteristics of each piece. Monkeypod is a wood from South America, with qualities similar to teak and walnut. With a beautiful graining pattern and color palette, it was a great fit for these tables. We sustainably sourced the wood from Diamond Tropical Hardwoods. We incorporated robotic fabrication with the help if Timburr LLC, as well as our analog methods of craft in order to achieve the right shape, grain patterns, and structural stability. The unique shape, porosity of the wood, and final location dictated a robust finish which required multiple even coats of a UV stable resin, as well as hand polishing to achieve the right matte look.
