The spirit of the original concept of a workshop remains alive in The Shop. Adapting to the unique layout and rationale of the space, we designed and fabricated many custom furniture elements, as well as threshold moments to fit within the character and use.
The layout is rational and functional to maximize utility and the connection to the exterior landscape. All of the private bedrooms open to an interior courtyard; this provides the interior circulation path amongst Japanese maple trees and a screened-in private garden. One makes use of the wrap-around interior and exterior porch frequently, living does not happen solely within the house, but within nature as well.
Earthen Delight re-imagines the garden as a fanciful theater for the performing arts. Just as the landscapes of Hieronymus Bosch set the stage for the peculiar, the terrain takes on a sensuous and playful form, complementing the theatrical drama that unfolds within it. The stage positions itself in the center, growing from the earth and nestling into taller garden walls. These walls become the wings of the stage and slope down to become audience seating in seamless transition. Shade and shelter is provided by a fabricated tree, which serves as a lightweight fly tower, allowing space for mounting lights and scenery.
Designed for an alpine site on Skuta Mountain in Slovenia, this cabin offers an intimate refuge for eight visitors nestled in the scenic Alps. The design minimizes environmental impacts: visually, gray, glass reinforced concrete cladding blends into the mountain’s stone, and performative, natural ventilation, robust insulation for cold nights, and a lack of electricity preserve the shelter’s natural setting.

The schoolhouse, now known as 'Thingo Kids Preschool' serves a mixed-income neighborhood in Cosmo City, Johannesburg. It is the first early childhood education center in the community where most children are sent to crèches (daycares) that lack in resources and academic curriculum. It accommodates 80 children and houses a teacher-training center.

Through the use of essential oils, heat and air, a tactile and olfactory experience manifests in Fossa Olfactoria. While scent is oft unexplored or completely omitted from serious discussions of architecture, scent and odor shape experience, occupancy, and comfort in powerful ways. An immersive, fleshy fabric membrane obscures an undulating massing of one thousand balloons.

Designed for a poolside area in Manhattan, this end-table series brings together an uncommon yet playful wood species, and deceptively light deployment of concrete to create a series of surfaces upon which to enjoy cocktails, play games, and appreciate the qualities of the wood.

Earth, wind, fire and water are all elemental to our being. When asked to create an outdoor shower for a former woodshop-turned-residence, we looked to the elements of nature to construct a bathing space that respects its environment and crafts an experience. We turned to the forest, the boundary upon which the shower is placed, and allowed nature to dictate our material palette. Using wood in many forms, we created a cedar wind and privacy screen, a board formed concrete wall, and tied it all together with a custom-steel framed cordwoodThe result is an immersive, sensorial bathing experience within nature.
